[1 of 1] ZThere's no problem here that you need a hint for. [1 of 1] ZIf you're here, then you've secured the four items and all four wings of the ZThe first comment was about "when a race is young and just beginning to grow". ZIf you're really sharp, you figured out that it's the spring. In the spring of ZThe next comment refers to a time when "a race is in the heat of growth". This ZThe calculator can be thought of as a "summer" because it can do sums. In the ZThe next comment is tricky if you're young. The comment referred to the ZOK, you've figured out that the comment referred to the autumn of the year when ZAt one time, at least, wigs were called "falls". [8 of 26] ZOf course, the next comment refers to winter. You say that you don't understand ZNow you need the magic word. If you haven't figured out what connects all these ZThe correct magic word is "seasons". You must 'say "seasons"'. [11 of 26] ZNow do you see the connection? Seasons spelled backward is Snosaes. Also, the ZYou say the Snosae is going to renege on his deal? How dastardly! And you ZYou have a limited number of turns now. You must do exactly the right thing. ZThe Snosae is behind that shield? Get him out of there. You can do it. ZYes, you can. Use one of the three things you have left. [16 of 26] ZNo, it's not the match. [17 of 26] ZNo, it's not the injector. Have you been in the first room off the ZWas there anything there which deals with dates? [6 of 18] ZHopefully, you realized the calendar might be important and took it. [16 of 18] ZDon't worry about the slot and calendar disappearing, they're supposed to. ZAll you've have to do now is open the door. [18 of 18] ZHave you tried simply opening the door? It's not locked, you know. [1 of 15] ZSo the alarm sounds when you open the door and the Snosae does nasty things to ZIf you haven't figured it out yet, those two wires are part of the alarm ZDidn't work, huh? Maybe if you cut one of them? [4 of 15] ZNothing to cut them with? Then you haven't examined something which is always ZConfused? Try "examine me". [6 of 15] ZThe pocket on your coveralls is really important. [7 of 15] ZHaving trouble finding out what's in that small pocket? Try "look in pocket". ZTry "take clippers from pocket" or "take clippers". We're very versatile. ZNow which wire should you cut? Try the blue one. [10 of 15] ZAnother failure. Try the red one. [11 of 15] ZStill no luck. Ok, now for the secret. You have to cut both wires at once. ZIf you tried "cut red wire and blue wire", it didn't work. Remember, using the ZNo, you can't have the clippers back. Why would you want them? They're broken ZAll you've have to do now is open the door. [15 of 15] ZHave you examined the plastic panel? Don't proceed with these ZDid you take the remote control? [4 of 12] ZHave you examined it? [5 of 12] ZLike the remote for a TV, you have to point the control at the door or panel. ZAnd you have to push the button, of course. [7 of 12] ZYou say that the door opened automatically but then slammed in your face before ZIf you should move or do anything else which makes the control no longer ZBut how do you use the control to jam the door, you ask? Not by pushing the Z"jam door with control". [11 of 12] ZNow just go south. Notice how cleverly we got rid of the control. This way, ZHave you tried opening the door? [1 or 8] ZOK, so the door is locked. What about the slot? [2 of 8] ZHave you measured the slot. Maybe you have something that will fit in it. ZHave you been in the second room off the north corridor? ZIt got darker. What do you think you should do now? What did hint 3 mention? ZIt's a glow-in-the-dark picture! Now, if you could just make it a little darker ZYou might try shutting the door so light can't come though it. [8 of 22] ZYou should now be able to see what's in the painting. [9 of 22] ZHave you been in the first room off the south corridor yet? Don't proceed with ZDid you take the book you found there and did you examine it? [11 of 22] ZSurprise, surprise! It's the book in the painting. Maybe the book has something Z"put book on table". [13 of 22] ZYou say nothing happened? Maybe there's still something else that needs to be ZHopefully, you've read "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves". If you haven't, it ZOK, I'll tell you. It's "open sesame". [16 of 22] ZNothing happened? When you get out of the central hallway and into the rooms ZIs the book in the painting open or closed? [18 of 22] ZYou closed the book and said "open sesame" and still nothing happened? Our ZUnless you've done something drastically wrong, the secret panel should have ZThe panel closed when you took the book off the table? Don't take it off the Z"go east". [22 of 22] ZThis is the first REALLY difficult room. You can probably tell that by the ZIt's locked. No surprise there. Have you tried taking the key on top of the ZCan't quite get your hands on it, huh? Have you tried "look in dome"? [3 of 50] ZYou might try "take key from dome". [4 of 50] ZSo now you're stuck. Walking away doesn't seem to help, does it? If anything is ZIf you're still stuck, try "drop key". [6 of 50] ZHave you tried doing anything with the peg? [7 of 50] ZYou might try pulling it. Or pushing. Or other types of motion. [8 of 50] ZTry turning the peg. [9 of 50] ZTry turning the peg left. [10 of 50] ZIf you examined the key, you got a very big hint. I'll be honest and tell you ZDid you bother to take the radio from the north side of the room and examine ZDid you try to play it or open it? [13 of 50] ZPretty useless item, huh? I wonder why it's in the game? If I were you, I'd get ZAlthough it is not normal for violence to achieve anything in adventure games, ZSo, how does it help us to have the magnet and peg? Well, the key will be ZFrustrated trying to figure out how to use the magnet? If you just drop it in ZHave you been in the second room off the east corridor yet? ZDid you try putting the magnet in the dome while you still had the cord in your ZOnce the dome closed and you did the natural thing and pulled on the cord, what ZWell, that's not the solution. Let's try another tack. Have you looked under ZThere's a pipe there. Have you examined the pipe and what's on it? [25 of 50] ZI wonder what a hole that small will be useful for? Have you figured out what ZRight, it opens the bottom of the dome and allows the key to drop down the ZWhat about if you put the magnet in the dome, go north and pull the lever. ZOK, you've got to drop the cord before you go north. [29 of 50] ZNow you've lost the magnet and cord as well as the key. RESTORE time. We need ZMaybe if we tied the other end of the cord to something that wouldn't fit ZHow about the peg? [32 of 50] ZNow, put the magnet in the dome, drop the cord, drop the peg, go north and pull ZYou should have guess there was more to this because of the number of hints ZOK, apparently measurement is going to be important here. Let's do some ZBoth the peg and magnet have cord tied around them. Have you measured them? Do ZNow if we note the descriptions of items in the room, we can figure something ZYou say you have over 9 inches too much? How can we shorten it? No, the ZGive up? Did you try to wind the cord around the peg? [39 of 50] ZYes, I know it doesn't work. The programmers got fiendish again. You must ZIf the key still doesn't end up at the level of the hole, remember that each !ZFinally, the key should be at the level of the hole. Were you wondering what #ZOops, you lost the peg, magnet and cord. Oh well, maybe we won't need them. %ZNow you can go north and unlock the door. [44 of 50] ZNow the key's useless. A [Note: For any women players of this game, we apologize for the following Asegment. The only Zthings of interest are a ladder leading upward, a doorway to the north across Zthe room and a crudely penciled message on the wall. ZAT DEATH'S DOOR: Z You're halfway across the room. You feel something is very wrong, as if Zyou're different in some way. BTHE DEATH ROOM: ABEYOND DEATH'S REACH: Z This is probably the plainest room you'll ever see in an adventure. The only Zthings of interest are a doorway to the north and a ladder leading upward across Zthe room. ZYou're in a small crawl space. Exits lead south and down. ZTHE MONKEY HOUSE: Z This is a very plain room. There is an open doorway to the north and a door Zin the southern wall. Over this door, high above the floor, is a small round Zhole. There is also an exercise machine, firmly bolted to the floor. Oh, and did Zwe mention the monkey sitting on top of the tall palm tree in the corner? Maybe Zthis room isn't really quite as plain as we thought (or pretended) it was. ZTHE ZHTY ROOM: A You are in a room with absolutely no exits. In one corner of the room is a Ashackled ZHTY. Luckily the chain connecting him to the wall is a short one and Ahe can't reach you. B There is no time to survey your surroundings. C You are in a room with a chained ZHTY. The only exit is though an open Cdoorway to the east. D You are in a room with a chained ZHTY. The exits are though an open Ddoorway to the east and a charred hole in the west wall. ZTHE MAGICIAN'S BEDROOM: Z You're in a bedroom. There is a bed here, a four-poster, made of mahogany. ZSomeone has removed the mattress, springs, bedding and canopy. There is a very Zlarge statue which you judge to be of a wizard. On the east wall is a painting. ZIn the corner is a grandfather's clock (it's stopped). On the south wall is a Zfull length mirror. There is a doorway to the west. ZBEHIND THE MIRROR: Z You're behind the mirror. There's a narrow passage to the east. Entrance Zback into the Magician's bedroom would, of course, be to the north. ZTHE BEAM ROOM (SOUTH SIDE): Z The floor in this room is interesting in that it doesn't exist. Currently Zyou are standing (somewhat precariously) on a small ledge. Stretching out from Zyou is a beam barely wide enough for one foot. On each side of the beam is a Zsheer drop into nothingness. Although it is physically impossible for a pit to Zbe bottomless (isn't it?), the one below this room certainly appears to be that Zway. Your eyes slowly trace the course of the beam across the room until it Aencounters a wall. In this wall, four feet up from the beam, is a hole which Ameasures approximately two feet in diameter. There is a doorway leading south Awith a hook beside it. Bends at a ledge on the other side of the room. There's a door there leading to Bthe north with a hook beside the door. There's also a doorway going south with Ba hook beside it and a rope draped across that hook. ZYOU'RE ON THE BEAM (SOUTH SIDE): ZYou're on the beam on the south side of the wall. There is a hole in the wall, Zfour feet up from the beam and about two feet in diameter. It would be a tight Zsqueeze but I think you could get though it if you wished. The beam stretches Zsouth to an doorway with a hook beside it. ZYOU'RE ON THE BEAM (NORTH SIDE): ZYou're on the beam on the north side of the wall. There is a hole in the wall, Zfour feet up from the beam and about two feet in diameter. It would be a tight Zsqueeze but I think you could get though it if you wished. The beam stretches Znorth to a ledge. There you see a door with a hook beside it. Draped on the hook Zis a stout-looking rope, the other end of which seems securely fastened to the Zceiling close to the wall you're standing next to. ZTHE BEAM ROOM (NORTH SIDE): ZYou're on the ledge on the north side of the beam room. There is a door here Zgoing north and a hook beside the door. There's a rope draped across the hook. AWhen you look back across the room to the south you see a wall with a hole in Ait. BWhen you look back across the room to the south you see a doorway with a hook Bbeside it. ZYOU'RE ON THE BEAM (NORTH SIDE, 8 FEET SHORT OF LEDGE): ZYou're on the beam on the north side of the wall. There's a scant 8 feet to the Zledge to the north. There you see a door with a hook beside it. Draped on the Zhook is a stout-looking rope, the other end of which seems securely fastened to Zthe ceiling close to the wall you've just left the safety of. ZTHE DENTIST'S WAITING ROOM: Z Maybe this isn't a dentist's waiting room but it sure looks like one. ZThere's the familiar uncomfortable couch and a plain table (with a single Zmagazine on it). There's a swinging door to the north and an ordinary one to the Zsouth. High above the door to the south is one of those gadgets which shows Zthe number of the patient currently being tortured. Beside the door is one of Zthose gizmos which dispenses slips with numbers on them so you can see how far Zyou're progressing toward being the victim. Muzak is playing (what else?). BOne of the floor tiles has been removed and there is now a hole there. COne of the floor tiles has been removed and there's a cylinder screwed into the Chole where the tile used to be. DA large section of floor has been removed and there is a ladder leading down Dunder the floor. Nearby is a large section of flooring with a cylinder stuck in Da hole in the middle of it. ZNORTH END OF TUNNEL: Z You're at the north end of a tunnel. A ladder leads upward. Careful of the Zhole continuing down from here (we had to have a place for the fishhook and tile Zto disappear to). ZTHE HAYSTACK ROOM: Z There is a large haystack in this room. There is a doorway in the wall to Zthe east and a door to the west. (Pretty short description, huh?) ZTHE PINBALL ROOM: Z You're in an extremely large room with an very high ceiling. On the west Zwall there is a large spot. On the east wall, near the ceiling, in the northeast Zcorner, there is a large grill. There are ten squares on the floor, colored Zblue, green, indigo, lilac, orange, red, silver, violet, white and yellow. ! BIn addition, there is an ecru colored square which you placed on the floor. " ZThese squares are placed so that each is at least eight feet from its nearest # Zneighbor. There's an open doorway to the south and a door in the eastern wall. $ CThat door is open but a steel lattice gate bars your way. ATHE BOATHOUSE: & A As the name of this room might suggest, there is a large boat sitting in ' Athe middle of it. At the very rear of the boat is a trapdoor in the floor of ( Athe room. Near the door in the south wall is a large pipe sticking from the ) Awall with a valve on it. * BTHE GLUG-GLUG-UNDERWATER BOATHOUSE: + B The boathouse is now underwater. There's a large boat floating above you , Band a trapdoor in the floor. Near the closed door in the south wall is a large - Bpipe which until very recently was pouring water into the room. ZIN THE WATER: / Z You're in the water. ZSOUTH END OF A NARROW PASSAGE: 1 Z You're at the south end of a narrow passage. At your feet is a drain 2 Z through which all the water from the boathouse has poured. ZTHE NAME-GAME ROOM: 4 Z This is a room for those of you who like word games and feel "punny" today.5 ZThere's a ladder leading down and doors in the north and south wall. High above 6 Zthe southern door is a neon sign flashing the words, "This door intentionally 7 Zleft unlocked". Beside the northern door is another sign. There is a flower bed 8 Zof flowers sitting over by the wall. I guess that makes them "wallflowers". 9 BAll the flowers are now cozily asleep, snuggled down in their "bed". : AThere's also a mean-looking spotted leopard sitting here. ; CThere's also a freshly de-spotted leopard sitting here. < DThe leopard isn't "spotted" here. ZSOUTH END OF TUNNEL: > Z You're at the south end of a tunnel. A ladder leads upward. ATHE RAMP ROOM: @ A This is a large room with a 20-foot ceiling and wall-to-wall carpeting. A AStarting at ground level near the north wall and rising to a height of ten feet B Ain the center of the room is a large metal ramp. Near the door in the east wall C Ais a huge couch, most unusual-looking. Hanging from the middle of the ceiling D Ais a two-foot piece of cable with a hook on it. Dangling from the hook is an E Aobject. The object is too far away to make out what it is, but it appears to F Abe colored red. G BTHE RAMP ROOM: H B This is a large room with a 20-foot ceiling and wall-to-wall carpeting. O CTHE BURIED-UNDER-SAND RAMP ROOM: P C This is a large room with a 20-foot ceiling. Everything which might have Q Cbeen in it is covered by a huge mountain of sand. A large slab of the ceiling R Chas been pulled down and there is a door in the eastern wall. ZBOTTOM OF THE RAMP: T ZYou're at the bottom of the ramp. ZTOP OF THE RAMP: V ZYou're at the top of the ramp. ZTOP OF THE MOUNTAIN OF SAND: X ZYou're at the top of the mountain of sand. You could probably pull yourself up Y Zinto the hole in the ceiling from here. ZABOVE THE CEILING: [ ZYou're above the ceiling of the Ramp Room. There's a door here leading west. \ ZYou could also jump safely down to the mountain of sand below. ZTHE HOW-DO-YOU-DO ROOM: ^ Z Sitting in the middle of this room is a case. The top of the case is _ Acurrently closed. Attached to the case is a panel. There's a doorway in the ` Awestern wall. a Bcurrently open. Attached to the case is a panel. Scattered through the room are items from adventure games, f Apast, present and future. You can go down to a narrow passage. g A[more] h Busefulness is over. I guess the usefulness of those previously here is not i Atruly over since they were used in this game. You can go down to a narrow j Bpassage. ZNORTH END OF A NARROW PASSAGE: l Z You're at the north end of a narrow passage. You can go up to a room above m Zthe passage. ASPRING ROOM: o A This room is completely bare except for the spring running through it. p AThere's a door in the northern wall. q BSPRUNG SPRING ROOM: r B This room is completely bare now that you have "sprung" the "spring" from s Bit. There's a door in the northern wall. ZMARIE ANTOINETTE ROOM: u Z Any other thing which might be here is overshadowed by the desiccated head v Zsitting in the middle of the room. There's a door in the eastern wall. Z "Congratulations, you made it though another test. We have estimated this x Zto be a level [1] test." Z "Congratulations, you made it though another test. Z "Congratulations, you made it though another difficult test. We have Zestimated this to be a level [6] test." Zhe holds. Finally he speaks. Z[more] Z "What are you doing here?" Z The demon's voice rolls like thunder throughout the huge chamber. All the Zdamned (for those who are sensitive about such things, please read the previous Zword as "doomed") souls here quickly hold their hands over their ears. You do Zlikewise. The demon's voice is now muffled, but understandable in its volume. Z "You've been less than perfect up until now and you'll just get worse, Zbelieve me. But you're not supposed to be here until the age of 84". Z[more] Z The demon pauses and a sly look comes across his face. Z "Well, as long as you're here, and seeing that you've brought the cat you Zkilled just to prove your worthiness, I'll slip over to city hall and see about Zfalsifying the records a little so we can keep you. After all, what good is Zliving a demon's life if one can't be evil once in a while. Oh, this will get ZHIS goat royally, he's always so sure there's time for redemption." Z With an evil chuckle the demon scurries off to complete his nefarious work. ZThe sweat running from your body is now from more than the heat as you consider Zspending the rest of eternity in HELL. Z[more] Z You stand, thinking about all the bad things you've done in your life Z(including, of course, the cat) and how you can be better in the future. Then Zyou remember there's to be no future. Just then, one of the damned (ditto, from Zabove) souls sidles alongside you and without you even asking begins to tell Zhis story. Z "Please, sir, have mercy on me. I was guilty of selfishness in my life, Zgreat selfishness. For that sin I am doomed to wander throughout HELL with an Zunquenchable thirst. Other souls along my path are given water and I am Zcompelled to ask them for just a drop. When I do, they refuse my meager request, Zmuch as I did to others in life. As you are new here, perhaps you will have Zmercy and give me any water which you might have." Z The lost soul stands patiently, as if he will wait forever (which, Zconsidering your location, is a definite possibility) until you grant his Zrequest. Z "Congratulations, you made it though another test. We have estimated this Zto be a level [5] test." Z "Congratulations, you made it though another test. We have estimated this Zto be a level [4] test." Z "Congratulations, you made it though another test. We have estimated this Zto be a level [4] test." Z[more] Z As you step into the room you are startled to see someone who looks Zamazingly like yourself (except he looks much more harried) enter though an Zcharred opening in the west wall. Looking rushed, he does exactly that, rushing Zright though you (much as a ghost would), and out the open doorway to the east. ZAn instant after his disappearance and before you have time to react, both the Zopening and the doorway vanish, leaving you in a room with absolutely no exits. Z "Congratulations, you made it though another test. We have estimated this Zto be a level [4] test." Z "Congratulations, you made it though another test. The Snosae stands behind his impenetrable shield waiting Zfor you. Z "I assume you have finished your quest, earthling. I would not have Zbelieved it possible for you to survive. Yet here you are. Now we'll see how Zmuch you've learned." Z The reptilian monstrosity touches a button and a panel opens in the wall Znear you. Behind the panel is a small recess. Z[more] Z "What you see is a transporter to our conquerors' planet. They left Zinstruction that the four items were to be transported to them as proof of our Zsuccess in their test. You will place the four items in the correct order in the Ztransporter. Do not make a mistake." Z The threat is evident in the Snosae's voice. Z "The key phase left with us to identify the first item to be transported Zis: A race's birth is a time of growth and new beginnings". Zhandyman. Zup in the last reel. Zyour hands! You've spent most of it putting a new Ztransmission in your vintage corvette. Your faded coveralls are now Zspattered with grease. You're tired and want to get at least a few hours Zsleep before it's time to get up again, yet you decide to take the car for Za test drive to see how good a mechanic you really are. You slip off your Zshoes and socks, your feet reveling in new-found freedom. Z Slipping behind the wheel, you fire up the engine, enjoying the sound Zof its powerful roar. You put the car into reverse and back out of the Zgarage. Soon you're cutting through the night with just the road for Zcompany. Then the trouble begins. Z[more] Z A sudden violent sound of metal tearing at metal under the car sends Zyour foot crashing on the brake. You try to control the skid of the car and Zslam the gear shift into neutral, hoping to save at least a part of the Ztransmission. Coming to a stop, you let out a long sigh. You now know how Zgood a mechanic you are -- not very good. Z You step out of the car and then remember the purpose of shoes. ZGrabbing your right foot and hopping around only makes the impact of rocks Zagainst your left foot more unenjoyable. You ungraciously fall onto your Zrear. You curse the rocks, your words rising in the blackness of the night. ZThe ridiculousness of your situation hits you and your curses are followed Zby peals of laughter. Then the trouble accelerates. Z[more] ! Z It starts as a small light in the sky. You think it merely a star, but " Zof course, you're wrong. The light suddenly moves as you watch it in # Zamazement. It veers in your direction and brightens. Before you know what $ Zhas happened, a flying saucer (or rather, a flying sphere) is hovering % Zdirectly over you. Z Staring at you like a bug-eyed monster is a bug-eyed monster / Z(literally). If the thing's eyes protruded any further from its face, they 0 Zwould have been on stalks. You notice a fuzziness in your vision and shake 1 Zyour head to clear it, but it doesn't seem to help. You get to your feet 2 Zand walk toward the green, scaly creature, trying to appear friendly. 3 Z After a few steps you run into the fuzziness which you thought to be a 4 Zproblem with your eyes. You stagger back from the impact. Rubbing the 5 Zrising bump on your head, you're shocked when the creature speaks in 6 Zperfect English. 7 Z "Transparent sub-molecular steel. Perfectly transparent and yet able 8 Zto withstand a nuclear blast. It's really a rather amazing material." 9 Z The monster's large eyes blinked -- all three of them. : Z "But I guess you want to know what's going on? And I'm going on about ; Zmy race's technology. You humans get disoriented over every little thing." < Z[more] = Z "You call my abduction a little thing?" > Z Your former desire to be friendly evaporates in the face of the slimy ? Zcreature's belittling evaluation of the human race. @ Z The creature shakes his head impatiently. "We'll never get anywhere if A Zyou insist upon acting this way. Now remain quiet and do not interrupt B Zwhile I explain what is required of you. We will soon be arriving". C Z You're about to tell the creature that the only place you wish to go D Zis back to your car and that you have no intention of doing what is E Z'required of you' when a motion by the creature toward a lever near him F Zwarns you that silence might be better. G Z "I am a 'Snosae' and my race is as far ahead of yours as yours is H Zahead of the snails of Earth. You've been brought here for a purpose beyond I Zyour comprehension, but I will try to explain it to you anyway." J Z[more] K Z "Long ago a race even more advanced than ours came to our planet to L Zoffer us membership in a galactic federation. Of course, we tried to M Zdestroy them, as is our way. But we were defeated. Still, these strangers, N Zfor unknowable reasons wished peace." O Z "Because of our actions, they demanded that we pass a 'test' before we P Zbecame member of their federation." The Snosae's voice betrayed the detest Q Zwhich he felt toward his race's conquerors. R Z "Many of my people have taken this test, but none have succeeded in S Zsolving the riddles set for us. Even our attempts to cheat have failed." T ZThe creature's chest swelled slightly. "Of course, cheating is the most U Zhonorable of all ways of passing any test and my people excel at this." V Z[more] W Z "We tried to break into the structure which the aliens built on our X Zplanet. We hoped to bypass their initial tests and go straight to the main Y Zpoint of the exercise. But the structure was built of sub-molecular steel." Z ZThe Snosae paused and then explained. "The non-transparent variety, of [ Zcourse." \ Z "Every volunteer perished there. Magically, their remains were taken ] Zaway and the whole treacherous artifact was put back into its original ^ Zorder." _ Z You brave the wrath of the creature and say, "You still haven't said ` Zwhy you've brought me here." a Z[more] b Z The Snosae appeared momentarily nonplused. "Examination of your c Zspecies reveals that you think differently." The alien's green face shaded, d Zas if he felt ashamed. "Perhaps you can succeed in this piddling test where e Zour race has failed." Realizing the light in which his words put his own f Zspecies, the Snosae rushed on. "Of course, we don't expect you to succeed. g ZIt's a long shot at best, considering how primitive you are." h Z Feeling a small advantage due to the creature's need for you, you i Zbrave another question. "What is the ultimate goal of this test?" j Z A smile lighted up the creature's face, rows of triangular teeth k Zmaking his face more hideous-looking. "Our conquerors said our violent l Ztendencies are the result of our race being individual-oriented. They felt m Zthat only a race where the individual ego is sacrificed for the good of the n Zwhole would be a asset to them. This is nonsense, but it is what they o Zbelieve." p Z[more] q Z "The goal of the test is to acquire four objects and by doing so bring r Zthe people of my race together. Supposedly the process of acquiring these s Zobjects, along with other clues, will suggest a magic word which will unify t Zus. I know it sounds ridiculous, but we have little choice. We can accept u Ztheir word for the existence of this magic or be quarantined from the rest v Zof the galaxy." w Z "And what's in it for me?" you ask. x Z "Life itself. If you do not die within the structure I will let you y Zlive. And if that isn't enough incentive, I will destroy your miserable z Zplanet if you fail. In the spirit of revenge, of course." { Z You shiver a bit at the cold sound in the creature's voice. You can | Ztell it would give him extraordinary pleasure to be the executioner of } Zhumanity. ~ Z "How long do I have?" Z[more] Z "As long as you wish. My race is an extremely patient one. Our tests Zof your DNA structure show that you will live to the age of 84. I would Zimagine that you would starve long before that." Z "Are there any other details of which I should be aware?" Z The Snosae shrugged. "We will shortly be landing on the roof of the Zstructure. From there you will descend into its center. It is in the shape Zof a cross, with wings going north, south, east, and west. Of the inside, Zthere is little information. If you accidentally succeed, you will know Zall. If you do not, you will have no use for information. It's all quite Ztidy, in that way." Z You're about to tell the Snosae what you think about his concept of Ztidiness when a large gong sounds through the ship. Z[more] Z "Ah, we've arrived. Now, if you will kindly step down the ramp." Z It turns out you have little choice despite the tone of the alien's Zwords. An opening appears at your feet, a ramp descending through it. The Zcreature gestures toward the lever with one hand while using his other to Zgive a very familiar gesture -- that of cutting a throat. Z Z *** TELEPORTATION TEST READY. SHALL I PROCEED? *** Z Zsee the Snosae glaring/smiling down at you. Z "I knew you could never pass the tests. Even so, it's hard to believe that Zyou couldn't get past the first door without tripping an alarm." Z With a swipe of his hand, the Snosae neatly detaches your head from your Zbody. The last thought through that head before it begins its journey to being a Ztrophy on a wall is how miserably you failed Earth in its time of need. Zthe key falls toward oblivion. Fortunately, it is attached to the magnet and now Zhangs suspended in the pipe. Unfortunately, it is not at the level of the hole. ZYour plan almost worked. Too bad the cord wasn't the right length. The dome has Ztightened around the cord. Zscream of frustration gives way to one of pain and then you're silent. Sayonara, Zbaby. ZThis one hurt you and you're still angry at it. To prove it, You stomp it a few Zmore times just to let it know how you feel. Zstick. Gee, just like in the circus. Zstick. Gee, just like in the circus. Well, not QUITE like the circus. In your Zconfidence you lose your grip on the stick and it plunges into nothingness. ZYou're still eight feet from the ledge. Zthe floor and lands in the trench. The aging wooden floor groans ominously but Zmost of the impact in taken up by the specially-braced trench. The ball pauses Zas if wondering which direction it should roll. Zgigantic steel ball rushes out from a tunnel behind it. The section of wall Zquickly springs back into place once the ball has passed. The ball covers the Zlength of the room with unbelievable speed. Zand rushes back to the top of the palm tree even faster than he came down. He Zthen proceeds to leisurely eat the banana, skin and all, enjoying the delicacy, Zeating it slowly, savoring each bite. Zfist will not fit through the opening in the gourd. He looks at you in disgust, Zrealizing you have tricked him. Unwilling to release the banana, he rushes back Zto the top of the palm tree, his hand trapped in the gourd. Remember, most accidents occur in the Zhome. Zopen. In frustration you smash it on the floor where it shatters into a thousand Zelectrical components. Among the debris is a small magnet, previously used in Zthe speaker assembly. Zit is a MAGIC mirror, you know. Z(did we forget to mention that the piece of chalk was very short?). As you step Zback to admire your handiwork, the ZHTY unleashed a mighty breath of flame and Zburns away the wall inside your drawing. ZHTY's are trained in the Snosae Zconstruction industry to do that, you know. How else do you think doorways could Zbe made in sub-molecular steel? Z[more] ZConsidering this, don't you think the Snosae must be more than just a little Zstupid not to have used a ZHTY to get into the structure from the outside? Z --- What can't be "changed" can be removed --- Z ZThis is sort of like changing horses in midstream, except in this case you can't Zchange methods of transportation in mid-acid-pool. Zfruitless. Try it. Zmagnetic attraction from above to keep the ball suspended on the ceiling near Zthe northwest corner of the room. Zthe magnet tried to pull the ball through the ceiling. You were supposed to make the room Zlook EXACTLY like the painting. Did you? [17 of 22] Zprogrammers are fiendish sometimes. We hint-givers are much nicer. [14 of 50] Zthis was thrown in to confuse you. Smash or break the radio. It's useless, Zanyway. [15 of 50] Zattracted to the magnet, but not much. [16 of 50] Zthe dome, it will touch the key and the dome will close. It's not powerful Zenough to attract the key from the top of the dome. Really frustrating, isn't Zit? [17 of 50] Zthese hints until you have. [18 of 50] ZInteresting. I wonder why the amount of cord taken up by the knot was important Zenough to mention? [20 of 50] Zhand? [21 of 50] Zhappened? [22 of 50] Zthe table? [24 of 50] Zthe lever in the north end of the room does? If you've never dealt with levers Zin adventure games before, I'll tell you that you have to pull them. [26 of 50] Zpipe. Now it's gone forever. That's not particularly useful. I sure hope that Zyou're not one of those adventurers who forgets to save their games regularly. ZIf you are, this room is going to frustrate you to death. [27 of 50] Z[28 of 50] Zto have some way to stop the cord from going through the hole. [30 of 50] Zthrough the hole in the top of the dome? [31 of 50] Zthe lever. That should be successful. Right? [33 of 50] Zleft unused. Guess that hole in the pipe must be of some importance. Otherwise, Zwhy would this abortive attempt have mentioned that the key is not at same Zlevel as the hole? It also mentioned something about the length of the cord. ZDid you measure it? [34 of 50] Zfiguring. There's two knots, each taking up some of the cord. What else is Ztaking up cord? [35 of 50] Zyou know that the distance around something round is 3.14159 times the diameter Zof the object? [36 of 50] Zout. It's 12 inches from the top of the dome to the bottom of the dome and the Zhole is 12 inches down from the bottom of the dome. Thus, we need exactly 24 Zinches of cord unused. [37 of 50] Znail clippers are broken and the proper solution is not to cut the cord. Z[38 of 50] Z"turn the peg". Either direction. [40 of 50] Zturn uses up about 3 inches of cord. I would take the ?Zwarning on the label (you did read the label, didn't you) very seriously. @Z[12 of 34] Z[13 of 34] Zresults might have been most unsuccessful, but they are VERY important. CZ[14 of 34] Zmaze said it takes "five moves" to get though the maze. You seem to only be EZable to go three directions before you explode on the third injection. Think FZabout what "five moves" can mean. [15 of 34] Zand making two injections could be "five moves". [16 of 34] Zradiation. [17 of 34] Zhints until you have. [19 of 34] Zcapitalized. That was done deliberately to draw your attention to it. Watch out KZfor things like that in adventure games. Note that the same is true on the LZtoken. [21 of 34] Zto do and its reply about using the wrong verb is very informative. [22 of 34] Zleast we think it's clever) of two words to form another word. Each part is OZused a different way. [23 of 34] Z[24 of 34] Z[26 of 34] Zcommand? [29 of 34] Zyou are foreseeing the future. Since that foreseeing shows you getting safely TZthrough the maze, then that must happen. If every time you try it you get a UZmessage about seeing yourself doing nothing important, you're trying it in the VZwrong place. [30 of 34] Znowhere else. [31 of 34] Zthat require more injections and death anyway? What's going on here? Just wait YZand see. [32 of 34] Zable to pass through the maze successfully by going south, east, east and [Zinjecting yourself twice. [33 of 34] Zmight be to believe), ask for a hint when you're there. [34 of 34] Zto get out of here. If you haven't, you'll never get out. [1 of 1] Zdo here is simply "go south". [1 or 1] Zrug? [3 of 21] Ztrapdoor" to distinguish it from the "ceiling trapdoor". [6 of 21] Zhandle again? [7 of 21] Zgive you some valuable information about how this room works. It may have cZconfused you too. [8 of 21] ZYou need to make them even more alike. [9 of 21] Zthese hints until you have. [10 of 21] Zhandle, it was your weight that triggered the reaction. Pull on the floor gZhandle. [13 of 21] Znot merely turned over, it has flipped so east and west are interchanged. iZNow do you see why the door had to go from floor to ceiling. In adventure games jZunusual things are seldom thrown in for no reason. Remember that when you kZexamine the door into the fifth room off the north corridor. [20 of 21] Zof course. [21 of 21] Zdo with the solution of another. [7 of 46] Zcorridor. [8 of 46] Zproceed with these hints until you have. [10 of 46] Znow that you're in a room with an outlet? [11 of 46] Z[12 of 46] Ztoaster". [13 of 46] Zthe only lever I've even seen in an adventure game that you push instead of tZpull. [14 of 46] Zbread no matter what form it's in. In order to solve this room, one must take a vZgiant leap of intuitive reasoning. You will find that there is no REASONABLE wZway to solve it. It takes an unreasonable solution. [16 of 46] Zthese hints until you have. [17 of 46] Zmove on. You say that might be dangerous? You're probably right, but let's try zZit anyway. [18 of 46] Zdynamite with the match" [20 of 46] Za way that we have time to get far away. [21 of 46] Zdoes so slowly? [22 of 46] Ztoaster, push the handle and then get out of there. [23 of 46] Z[24 of 46] Zthe toaster? That makes sense. If you want to put distance between yourself and Zthe dynamite after you put it in the toaster, you don't want to be carrying the Ztoaster anyway. [26 of 46] Ztoaster in addition to the fuse? That's why we made it a two-hole toaster. Z[27 of 46] Zjust to run away is not enough. You've got to put something really strong Zbetween you and the explosion. [29 of 46] Zlarge an area. You need to restrict it some. [34 of 46] Zthey have. What would you do in such a situation at home? I'm not talking about Zexploding dynamite in a toaster at home, I'm talking about locating your Ztoaster further away from the outlet than the cord will reach. [36 of 46] Zthese hints until you have. [38 of 46] Zgo east into the fireplace. [39 of 46] ZLITTLE bit for yourself, you know. [40 of 46] Zenough people do so that we want to call your attention to the fact that you Zdon't have any moves to waste. [42 of 46] Zdynamite in a structure built of virtually indestructible material, you've Zlucked out and managed to make a hole so you can go further east. [43 of 46] ZAlthough most people wouldn't do such a thing, make sure you don't drop Zanything in this room that you want to keep. The explosion will destroy Zanything in the room. Our programmer tore his hair out trying to make that one Zwork. [44 of 46] Zrefused to fix it, said it would be a lot of work and wasn't that important. Z[45 of 46] Zconnected to it into the fireplace and drop it, it also drops the cord there. ZThat's because there's a special routine for dropping things attached to other Zthings. Since there's really only one cord, it will no longer be beside the Zoutlet when it gets dropped in the fireplace although it will still be plugged Zinto the outlet. [46 of 46] Znumbered. The programmer re-thought the problem of the extension cord needing Zto be in two places at once. He said that if we were going to mention it in the Zhints, he'd fix it. He fixed it so the extension cord keeps changing places if Zyou move between the two parts of the room. But he missed one case. There's Zsomething you can do to the extension cord so it stays in one place instead of Zshifting back and forth and according to the logic of connected things, it's Zthe wrong place! Zgood. [3 of 7] Zuseless and is put into a game to raise your hopes and then dash them. [6 of 7] Zthough you can't see anything. You might find out something interesting. Z[1 of 23] Zsurroundings. Maybe there's something you could use from the first room off the Zsouth corridor. [2 of 23] Zthe second room off the east corridor. [3 of 23] Zlight fixture here. Maybe you could find a bulb for it. [5 of 23] Zthese hints until you have. [6 of 23] Z[7 of 23] Zground. Do you notice anything unusual about its name? [8 of 23] Zdifferent in the two is the placement of one letter. [9 of 23] Zafter all. [10 of 23] Zsomething". [12 of 23] Zletter g in the letters liht. [13 of 23] Zwant to actually use the words "letter" and "letters" in your command. Z[14 of 23] Zletters "liht". [15 of 23] Zinto a "light" bulb that you put it into the fixture. [17 of 23] Zputting it together. Maybe we were lying when we said it was impossible. Z[18 of 23] Zthe dark and banged up your shins? That's when you knocked the puzzle off the Ztable. You shouldn't have done that. RESTORE time. [19 of 23] Zfixture on the wall in this very room. If you didn't knock it off the table you Zcan see that it shows the fixture on the wall turned to the right. [20 of 23] Zyour light bulb back? You might need it somewhere else. [22 of 23] Zyou haven't seen the movie, this pod is one half of a teleportation system. Z[4 of 31] Zseen the movie you'll know what that means. Otherwise, we'll tell you about it Zlater. [6 of 31] Zroom, have you determined how to use the computer to do so? [9 of 31] ZTry answering the question, like with the word "yes". [10 of 31] Zscreen? Did you put quote marks around the word "yes"? [11 of 31] Zthinking. [12 of 31] ZHe managed to get the words on the screen into English, but accidentally left Zthe response required in French. [13 of 31] Zprogrammer of this game assures us that he has seen a very similar situation Zwith a foreign programmer he once worked with. [14 of 31] Zactually activates the teleportation pod. [15 of 31] Zprocedure will mix up your atoms with anything you carry. It isn't healthy to Zhave foreign object atoms mixed with yours. You might consider using the Zcommand "drop all" instead of dropping each item individually. [16 of 31] Zcoveralls" before entering the pod. Have you tried removing the coveralls and Zthen tried moving around anywhere else? [19 of 31] Zproceed with these hints until you have. [22 of 31] Zon this game. It's the fly swatter. Kill the fly with it. [23 of 31] Zwant to be mixed with dead fly atoms any more than you do with live ones. Z[24 of 31] Zhim. [25 of 31] Zthese hints unless you've teleported successfully but have another problem. Z[26 of 31] Zyou'll have to teleport your coveralls before you teleport yourself. Set up for Zteleportation, remove your coveralls, drop them within the pod, exit the pod Zand shut the door. [27 of 31] Z[28 of 31] Zteleport yourself. [29 of 31] ZTrust us - save yourself a lot of work. [30 of 31] Zaren't any. You can just take your things (have you figured out the use of the Zcommand "take all" yet). You've solved this room. [31 of 31] Zelse in this game except right outside the first pod? All kind of silly things Zyou might try can give you valuable information in adventure games. [3 of 4] Zback there, you ask? If you don't have any clothes you're out of luck. ZOtherwise, Trust us to handle it for you. [4 of 4] Zpossible directions of travel. [2 of 2] Zcould get on it and then go west. [2 of 20] Zcorridor. [3 of 20] Z[5 of 20] Z"turn pedals right". The computer will take care of the holding. [10 to 20] Zleft. [12 of 20] Zpedals left. I guess you'll just have to continue on the foolhardy course Zyou've chosen. [13 of 20] Zfeet get near the acid. [14 of 20] Zlegs. [15 of 20] Zthose biceps and triceps a little more rather than being a couch potato Zwatching Opra. [16 of 20] Zthese hints until you have. [17 of 20] Zlife. If you're a woman playing this game, the remarks made after using the Zexercise machine may not be entirely appropriate. We didn't have time to put Zthe gender-specific comments in. [18 of 20] Z"exercise". For the fun of it, try exercising anywhere else. [19 of 20] Zto raise your legs at the appropriate time, of course. [20 of 20] Zasking for hints? [1 of 1] Zasking for hints? [1 of 1] Zasking for hints? [1 of 1] Zasking for hints? [1 of 1] Zasking for hints? [1 of 1] Zyou. [2 of 16] Z[5 of 16] Zanything else on this side of the room you can manipulate? [14 of 16] Zsafety. [16 of 16] Z[1 of 9] Z[2 of 9] Zisn't anything you're carrying that the cat doesn't like. It says there's Zsomething about YOU it doesn't like. If it makes you feels any better, our Zprogrammer has the same problem. Of course, in his case it's understandable. He Zhates cats as much as they hate him. [4 of 9] Z[5 of 9] Zadventure game. [6 of 9] Zimmediately. He didn't even try to take the cat. He just walked in and killed Zit right off. Of course, he hates cats too, so perhaps his reaction had nothing Zto do with lateral thinking. [8 of 9] Zdescribed correctly when you have it in inventory. [9 of 9] Zdifferent the world might be if she never eats it. You could try asking her for Zthe apple. [4 of 10] Zdo with Eve. Have you examined her? If you're female, just ignore this hint. Z[5 of 10] Ztechnique works and read our incredibly witty comments. [6 of 10] Z[7 of 10] Z[8 of 10] Zevents routine. Just enjoy it and leave at the proper time in the proper way. Z[9 of 10] Z[10 of 10] Z[3 of 14] Zthem proof that you're bad enough to stay there. You say that you don't want to Zstay in Hell? Sorry, you've got to if you're want to finish this game. Z[4 of 14] Zto kill the cat. For you cat lovers, don't worry, it ends up OK for the cat in Zthe end. Really. [6 of 14] Zwhat? [7 of 14] Zwhat? [8 of 14] Za trophy in the form of a dead cat)? Give the man some water. Z[9 of 14] Zthe south corridor? Don't proceed with these hints until you have. [10 of 14] Zon this one. [11 of 14] Zif you're stuck in Hell, thirsty, for eternity. [12 of 14] Zand you can continue on your adventure. Of course, Eve is gone permanently now "Zand we didn't even get to buy her a drink or anything. [14 of 14] Zin other rooms. Have you been in the proper room and found the right item? $ZYou're awfully far down the north wing and haven't been very far down the %Zothers. [1 of 10] Zor if you have the right item? Have you just tried the brute force approach and 'Ztried to walk across the room to that open doorway? [2 of 10] Zyou were half-way across? [3 of 10] Zstarting age makes you at least 84 years old by the time you cross the whole *Zroom. Remember that the Snosae said you were "scheduled" to die at the age of +Z84. Is there anything you've found so far which has anything to do with aging ,Zor time? [4 of 10] Zacross this room into the next one there would be. Fat lot of good that does .Zyou. [5 of 10] Zroom does NOT depend upon anything you found in any other room. Or this one, as 0Zfar as that goes. [6 of 10] Zlateral thinking. Lateral thinking is where the solution is intuitively obvious 2Zto one who thinks laterally. For normal step-by-step thinkers, this type of 3Zthinking defies logic. [7 of 10] Zyears in going across the first half of the room, then it is only logical that 5Zyou will lose that additional age if you walk across the second half BACKWARD. 6ZThis is intuitively logical to a lateral thinker, believe it or not. [8 of 10] Ztyping "north", then "turn around" and then "north" again. [9 of 10] Zthe north or south side of it. [1 of 1] Zroom the other way? If you didn't, congratulations. Maybe you're a lateral :Zthinker after all. [1 of 3] ZWe arranged it this way so you wouldn't accidentally go through the rest of the <Zadventure walking backward. [2 of 3] Zcare of all this turning around for you. It will also take care of opening and >Zclosing those doors in the first room of this wing for you. Aren't we nice to ?Zprovide such a handy command? Don't you wish we'd done it sooner? [3 of 3] Zmembership, our first month's club fees are waived. [2 of 33] Zsouth? Have you tried opening it? [6 of 33] Zafter all, my job). You don't need a key. [7 of 33] Z[9 of 33] Zsomething at the hole. But what is it you need to throw? [10 of 33] Zit? [15 to 33] Zdistract him. [16 of 33] Zit? [18 of 33] Zand he still prevented you from throwing the baseball through the hole. Now IZwhat? [20 of 33] Zincapacitate the monkey. Climb the tree and kill him. [21 of 33] Zkilling just ANY animals in this game. Have you managed to survive the Zhty LZbeast yet? [22 of 33] Zresounding NO! If you'd ever met one, you'd remember it. If you'd survived, NZthat is. You'll need one of the items found in the third room off the west OZcorridor to incapacitate the monkey. Don't proceed with these hints until PZyou've been there. [23 of 33] Z[24 of 33] Z[25 of 33] Zeveryone to know how to trap a monkey. Otherwise, how can you handle situations TZlike this? [26 of 33] Zthe gourd. [28 of 33] Zhand is too large to fit back through the hole while he's holding the banana. WZToo bad you didn't tie the gourd to a stake in the ground. If you had, the XZmonkey would have been trapped and you could have killed it. Ah, well, violence YZnever solves any problem (this statement may be a lie). [29 of 33] Zsituation changes, the results of actions you take may change. I guess that's [Ztrue of life in general, isn't it? [30 of 33] Zbaseball through the hole, watched in humor as the monkey fell, heard the click ]Zthat tells you that the door is unlocked and you still can't get the door open? ^Z[31 of 33] Z[33 of 33] Zstrange beast. What's going on? [1 of 37] Zit. You read it but you didn't understand it? Continue on with the hints then. bZ[2 of 37] Zthe future. The ghostly image that ran through you was yourself sometime in the dZfuture. I wonder what you were running from so frantically? [3 of 37] Zforever, it isn't necessary to drink. [10 of 37] Zlocation. What did the vision you had when you drank from it here mean? gZ[11 of 37] Zshows you images of what happened to you in the past which you just skipped iZover. [12 of 37] Zever get back there. [13 of 37] Zhow do you know what order to do them in? [15 of 37] Zfuture when you need them), so don't continue until then. [18 of 37] Zhis mind. Quick, what's the plan? Your visions told you. [19 of 37] Zall". [21 of 37] Zready for that, don't read on. [22 of 37] ZYou have to throw something at the beast. [24 of 37] Zthese hints until you have. [26 of 37] Ztexture to MOMENTARILY incapacitate the beast. But only if you hit him in just sZthe right spot. [28 of 37] Zhave any chalk. What do you do? [32 of 37] Zthese hints until you have. [34 of 37] ZAnd you have no idea how you'll turn a doorway you've drawn with chalk into a wZsmoking hole? [35 of 37] Zreally clever solution for that one. [36 of 37] Zyou go. Leave the Zhty chained. [37 of 37] Z[4 of 66] Zshould be. Except for one. [8 of 66] Zcourse is really "hair-raising". There is significance in the use of the word }Z"hare" (which means "rabbit", of course). [9 of 66] Zanother adventure? [12 of 66] Zoff the north corridor is now useless. [17 of 66] Z[18 of 66] ZAlice and her sister right before the rabbit comes through. What else can you Zdo with the painting? [19 of 66] Zand move every painting. [20 of 66] Zenough for the year. Maybe it's your social security number. Now how would the Zcomputer know that? Maybe it's the programmer's social security number. But how Zwould YOU know that? Have you examined the bed? [23 of 66] Zcome apart if properly manipulated. [27 of 66] Zyou really have to. "26 is the magic number" tells you what the information is Zabout. [30 of 66] Zto use" REFERS to how many numbers you have to turn the dial to. [31 of 66] Zthe dial to. In this case the "number of numbers" is 26. [32 of 66] Zthe number of numbers". [33 of 66] Zas a two number combination. [34 of 66] Zdigits, if you haven't figured it out yet. [35 of 66] Zsignificance in the fact that there are 26 digits on the dial? [36 of 66] ZHalf of the numbers of the combination, when the appropriate letters are Zsubstituted, spell out what is inside. [38 of 66] Zfound in this room. Also carefully consider what you haven't found. [39 of 66] Zcombination. [42 of 66] Zthe combination. The first 3 numbers of the combination tell us what kind of Zkey it is. [43 of 66] Zcourse, a reference to the statue. But why is WIZ capitalized? That must have Zmeaning. And why "under another name"? [44 of 66] Zit as the first 3 numbers of the combination, but we're more devious than that. ZWhat might be other names for a wizard? [45 of 66] Zthem down if you have to. Do any of those names have anything to do with a key? Z[46 of 66] Zway, as a combination of words. [47 of 66] Z[48 of 66] Z[50 of 66] Zhuh? You've unlocked the statue with the key. You've opened the statue. You've Zgot the pill. Now what? [51 of 66] Zthese hints until you have. [54 of 66] Zthen you know what the mushroom is for. If you've tried eating the mushroom Zyou've probably figured out what it does too. Now, how can we use this? Z[55 of 66] Zwith the mushroom. [57 of 66] Zswallow the pill. [58 of 66] Zlarger. [59 of 66] Zfairly limited. Could you be wearing something which our programmer did not Zwant destroyed? [60 of 66] Zexamine yourself when you're large. Now swallow the pill. [61 of 66] Z[62 of 66] Zmushroom. [64 of 66] Z[65 of 66] Zproceed with these hints until you have. [3 of 24] Zused here. [4 of 24] Z[5 of 24] Z[6 of 24] Zit were on this side? [7 of 24] Zyou'll have to drop it. [9 of 24] ZStill, we could go north and see what happens. [10 of 24] Zbeam? [11 of 24] Zwith these hints until you have. [12 of 24] Zof the wall? [13 of 24] Zuseful in helping you retain the stick? [14 of 24] Zhave the cord from the first room off this corridor. [16 of 24] Zon the stick (but not the other way around). You can stick the gum on the wall. Z[20 of 24] Zlittle parser loved that last command. But we'll test it even further later on. Z[21 of 24] Zhole. [23 of 24] Zabout hints. If you want any, return to the ledge behind you. Z[1 of 1] Zabout hints. If you want any, return to the ledge on other side of the wall. Z[1 of 1] Z[1 of 4] Zwant to know what to do? [2 of 4] Zdoes something USEFUL. [3 of 4] Z[4 of 4] Z[1 of 7] Z[3 of 7] ZI bet it smarted when you hit that wall. [4 of 7] Zon the rope, you might have noticed a little comment about a clamp at the Zbottom of the wall. RESTORE and examine that wall and clamp. Yes, you'll really Zhave to go all the way back to that point. [5 of 7] ZWhat you need to do is "open the clamp". [6 of 7] Zusually do in waiting rooms? [4 of 26] Z[5 of 26] Ztroubles. [6 of 26] Zthese hints until you have. [14 of 26] Zhole. But what? [18 of 26] Zhints until you have. Actually, this is a rhetoric question. You should have Zbeen in that room before you were in the room with the fishhook. But then, some Zpeople play adventure games in very strange ways. [19 of 26] Z"turn cylinder right" before pulling it. [23 of 26] Zflooring. [25 of 26] Z[1 of 28] Zthat could help you. [2 of 28] Zto turn the slick doorknob. We let you wisely see its condition ahead of time. Z[5 of 28] Zthese hints until you have. [7 of 28] Zthe door. [8 of 28] Zdoorknob? This certainly shows how nice we are. We could have let you use your Zungloved hand and then you'd be stuck to the doorknob. [9 of 28] Zthe screw holding it in place is loose. We'll need a tool to fix that. Z[10 of 28] Zhints until you have. [11 of 28] Zyou'll realize that the tool you need is the screwdriver. Did you examine it? Z[12 of 28] Zwould be one way. Another would be "tighten doorknob with screwdriver". Z[13 of 28] Zhow to get rid of it. [15 of 28] Z"open door" after putting the glove on. [16 of 28] Zday. Now how do we get the door unlocked? [17 of 28] Zthese hints until you have. [19 of 28] Z[21 of 28] Zmagnifies from both directions or whether it's like a telescope which functions Zdifferently depending on which direction you use it? [22 of 28] Z"pick lock with lock pick". [27 of 28] Zcan be prevented from going through the wall? [5 of 27] Zyou tried stepping on the blue square and then stepping on it again? [7 of 27] Zblue square and then waiting for a number of turns. [8 of 27] Zthem reverses automatically after a time. If you try a few squares, you'll find Zthat this timer varies in length depending on which square you step on. Z[9 of 27] Z[10 of 27] Zfirst course of action, you might try identifying what each square does. ZSome of these may be difficult to identify without some experimentation with Zthe ball. [11 of 27] Zit can't if the wall is already lowered. This should imply that the squares Zmust be done in the correct order. I'm sure that by now you've figured out that Zfor yourself since things keep turning off before you want them to. There is a Zsecret way of knowing what order is correct. [12 of 27] Zthe wall if the steel plate isn't lowered. [13 of 27] Zon. [14 of 27] Zturned on. [16 of 27] Zorder to get it down, you have the turn the force field off first. If you turn Zthe magnet off first, the force field will shoot it back across the room and Zthrough the wall. [17 of 27] Z[19 of 27] Zthrough the floor. [20 of 27] Zwest corridor? Don't proceed with these hints until you have. [21 of 27] Zyou can step on it. [22 of 27] Zget your ball back to rolling down the trench. Step on that ecru square at the Zright moment and all hell's going to break loose. It's pinball time! Z[23 of 27] Zball land on the silver square), then you're to be congratulated. Hopefully you Zexperimented enough to have stepped on the red square and noticed the bars Zbehind the door. The secret mentioned in hint twelve is the phrase Z"ROY G. BIV LIVES". [24 of 27] Z"R" stands for red, "O" for orange and so on. It's a handy thing to know. It's Zused a lot in adventure games in one form or another. [25 of 27] Zconcocted a situation where the reversal of two processes have to be achieved Zat exactly the right time to spell out something. [26 of 27] Zstep on the squares. If you haven't, you'll never get through this room. Z[27 of 27] Zdescription as examining the trapdoor. This is an adventure game programmer's Ztrick. In order to save programming, the ring and trapdoor are defined to be Zthe same object. Sometimes this can give humorous results. Opening the trapdoor Zand opening the ring is an example. Nothing's perfect. [3 of 22] ZAren't we smart to have put a room with a bottomless pit right next door? You Zwere lucky you had that door open. On the other hand, maybe you weren't Zsupposed to have it open. [6 of 22] Zclosing the valve. [7 of 22] Zcomputer keeps telling you to wait? Then wait. (Special note: All hints here Zare for when water has not filled the room. For hints when the room is filled, Zwait until you're treading water.) [8 of 22] Zor use of the RESTORE command. You really shouldn't look any further until Zyou've reached that point. [9 of 22] Zthe propeller to the boat. Have you been in the fourth room off the south "Zcorridor?
